Mayor's Grove Park: A Brief History
In 2000, the Grand Avenue Greenway project in Pullman took root, transforming a gritty industrial street into a verdant community highlight. Sparked by a book club conversation, the project blossomed through the efforts of former Pullman mayor Karen Kiessling and the support of city officials.
The first major milestone was the Mayors' Grove, inaugurated with trees selected and funded by former mayors. This event symbolized the start of a larger beautification effort, leading to the creation of the WSU Presidents' Grove and the Chamber of Commerce Presidents' Grove.
Local businesses contributed, maintaining the lush new landscape. To this day, the Rotary Club of Pullman continues to be stewards of the Mayors' Grove Park as the project stands as a testament to Pullman's commitment to urban improvement and community values.
