In 2000 the Nobel Prize was awarded for the discovery that plastic materials could be made electrically conductive, enabling the concept of plastic electronics. This new class of materials has resulted in “organic devices” and could revolutionize technology in the next generation. Brian will discuss some of these promising applications and how his research program at WSU Physics uniquely aids in understanding how molecular ordering can be guided to control how devices function. The physical relationships between device nanostructure and properties that they establish will enable high-performance printable, flexible, and biocompatible devices that may change the way we live our lives in the next decades.
